brasserie du Mont de l'Enclus

In 620, Prince Salvaert of Dijon crossed the Sans-Merci forest to return to England with his pregnant wife, Ermengaert. He was attacked by Count Phinaert. The whole caravan was killed except for Ermengaert, who gave birth to her son with fear. The new-born was collected by a local hermit who would give him his name, Liedericq (Lydéric). As an adult, after having avenged the death of his father, he founded the city of Lille and became the first Count of Flanders. "Kluiz" comes from "kluizenaar", the Flemish word for "hermit". This place is now known as Mont de l'Enclus (Kluisbergen in Belgium).
